
Illustrator Chrigel Farner has a knack for chaos. His enormous scenes move between writhing armies of characters or solitary giants. The Berlin artist’s practice encompasses editorial illustration, comics, and gallery art. Farner’s style recalls both the wild characters of classical animation and the detailed world-building of Moebius.




His captions on Instagram offer some insight into some of the work. For the below piece, he calls what we’re seeing to be a “completely unscientific illustration of the Tourette- syndrome.” For the above character: “Omo, the man behind the moon and X-Ray Butter at their lookout point above the silver espresso machine in the excellent Berlin bookshop Monday.”

Amy Crehore brings her joyful paintings to La Luz de Jesus Gallery with the aptly named "Bathers, Buskers & Cats." The show, running through Dec. 1 at the Los Angeles space, offers a set of oil on linen works that move through time, cultures, and touches of surrealism, all while staying true to that title.
