The latest work from artist Greg “Craola” Simkins explores the daydreams of youth, offering alternative universes and fantastical creatures. His new show with KP Projects, “The Escape Artist,” collects those new paintings and drawings. Simkins was last mentioned on HiFructose.com here, and he created the cover and was featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 41.

“I have been taking refuge in my memories lately, the artist says. “Memories of the first time I saw a whale in the wild, seeing a meteor shower, and of all the daydreams that kept my wandering mind entertained as a child. Memories like these have become part of my subconscious and reinvigorate me each time I sit down to sketch out an idea for a painting. These memories are a lifeline inviting me to climb down a portal into another world, where I get to escape daily by just picking up a brush.”
The show kicks off Saturday (May 19) and runs through June 16. See more images from “The Escape Artist” below.
