Behind the Scenes of Jen Stark’s Drippy Rainbow Mural in Los Angeles

Jen Stark, first featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 20, has become well known for her artworks that appear to ooze and blossom into harmonious rhythms of colors. Although she made a name for herself for her intricate paper sculptures, she has since explored a variety of media including wood, paint, plexi and animation- notably, the wormhole and animated dripping entrance that she created for Miley Cyrus at the 2015 MTV VMAs. Stark's largest work to date is another new venture for the artist.

Stark’s largest work to date is another new venture for the artist. It is her first mural for the city of Los Angeles and is already iconic to Culver City, where it marks the entrance to Downtown Culver City and the Arts District. Titled “Technicolor Drip”, the piece is a psychedelic rainbow concoction that “drips” onto surrounding buildings. The curators of the project, LeBasse Projects and PLATFORM, a local initiative to restore existing structures in Los Angeles, have just released a “behind the scenes” video of the mural, which you can watch below.

For many artists, painter's tape is a handy tool used to draw perfect shapes and outlines that are revealed when the tape is removed- but for Berlin based artist collective known as "Tape Over", the tape sticks. Using tape as their preferred drawing material, founding artists Lamia Michna and Robert Konig began first experimenting with tape art in 2011 at Berlin’s electro night club scene, eventually moving their work onto large-scale installations all over the world. Though much of their work is focused on indoor and outdoor murals, they prefer to be called tape muralists over street artists.
A riot cop covered in flames in the middle of the street, Claude Monet's poppies swallowed by a hole in the sky, and a large ship tearing up the Earth's surface, leaving a bloody scar behind it- these are images Pejac recently shared on his Facebook page, where he just announced his highly anticipated solo exhibition in London. Known primarily for his striking "public interventions", works that cleverly mix illusion and reality, fantasy and familiarity featured here, the Barcelona based street artist is once again moving his work from the public arena and into the gallery.
Los Angeles based artists and friends Bumblebee Loves You (featured here) and KETS recently completed a mural that unites their aesthetics of 'graffiti' and 'street art'. Bumblebee incorporates social messages into his stencil graffiti and street installations, while KETS represents with spray-painted graffiti. The image is of a bee-striped boy playing with his toy train next to tracks alongside the 110 freeway.
We recently spotted Aryz's massive wall at the We AArt mural festival in Denmark (see our coverage here) and shortly after, the prolific Spanish artist traveled to Vilnius, Lithuania to paint a new mural for the Vilnius Street Art Festival. Aryz took an atypical route in the creation of this piece: though it appears geometrically organized and precise, he painted the mural without sketching out his idea prior to coming to the wall. Before he arrived, the wall already had the words “Kaip Ne Žmogus” (or, "Not Like Human") tagged on it. Aryz incorporated the text into his piece, and it seems to fittingly describe this otherworldly scene.
