Nikoline Liv Andersen’s Sculptural Fashion Designs

At the intersection of fashion and sculpture you’ll find the wearable artwork of Copenhagen-based artist Nikoline Liv Andersen. “My work is expressive, living in the borderline between fashion and art with a big focus on textiles, textures and delicate details” Anderson said, describing her work. Many of Andersen’s designs challenge the purpose of ordinary materials, using them to create intricate works of art.

Many of Andersen’s designs challenge the purpose of ordinary materials, using them to create intricate works of art.

“I love changing the look of industrial materials that you normally don’t use in clothes into something organic. That can for instance, be plastic drinking straws, nails or rivets.” She said.

Anderson’s mixed media pieces take a variety of forms, as she creates pieces that seem to have both futuristic and archaic elements. Many of the pieces alternate between tones as well. Some are dazzling with eye catching color, while others are more gothic and somber.

Minneapolis-based artist and designer John Foster makes sparkling glass objects that look well-suited for the homes of fairies and mermaids. Interested in the geometric structures that govern various natural phenomena, Foster creates iridescent prisms that, when grouped together, cast brilliant reflections in the surrounding space. The artist works in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, and installation, and seeks to use geometry as a way to change the ways viewers interact with the spaces around them.
In sculptor Alessandro Gallo’s new body of work, “Most of the Time,” the artist evolves his ceramic human-animal characters in new situations and reflections. The series is on display in a show currently packing Abmeyer + Wood in Seattle until May 31. Gallo was last featured on HiFructose.com here and appeared in Hi-Fructose Vol. 24.
Eagles, butterflies, beetles, skulls and human hearts are just a few of the things that British artist Phil Robson, aka "Filfury" has shaped using sneaker parts. The self-described 90s child defines his work as a "a battle of pop culture vs nature", turning his obsession with sneakers, hip hop culture, and our own over-consumption of mass products into an unlikely source material.
Mario Mankey, a Valencia-born artist, creates large-scale installations and murals that feel at once comical and bleak. His recent installation at The Haus in Berlin, titled “Ego Erectus,” is indicative of this. The massive feet, which extend from the ceiling of the room, dwarf viewers and hint at an ever-present burden of humanity.
