Hi-Fructose has long been fascinated by the delicious yet deadly cake sculptures of Scott Hove. The Oakland based artist’s works (which you may remember from HF Vol. 12) are instantly attractive, they’re both sweet and sinister and are oftentimes interactive and immersive.
Scott has crafted a new three dimensional piece for our upcoming Hi-Fructose Invitational show at Roq la Rue in Seattle this coming Friday, March 11th and was kind enough to document his previously unseen process of creation. Get a look at the step by step and behind the scenes pics of the new piece and how it was made, below.
1. Shaping the foam forms with rasp
2. Carving shapes with Japanese wood carving knife
3. Recycling mannequin head from old piece
4. Mounted form
5. Setting coyote teeth
6. Chocolate paint
7. Frosting
8. Final piece
