We swung by Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco the other day to check out Alex Lukas‘ upcoming show, “These Are The Days of Miracle and Wonder”. Incorporating a variety of mediums including acrylic, ink, and even silkscreen, Lukas’ disaster-wrought landscapes are even more fitting and relevant in these recent months of worldwide natural disasters. In addition to his trademark submerged cities, Alex has also taken a step further inland, exploring the devastation on land. Abandoned cars, bridges, and a dreary sky set the tone for the viewer who further explores Lukas’ post-apocalyptic world, to make the show even more encompassing, Lukas has constructed a couple billboards to host two 7 1/2 foot long pieces. Accompanying “These Are The Days of Miracle and Wonder”, Guerrero Gallery will also feature Matt Leines in their project room with his show, “These Songs are True”. For an indepth look into Leines’ latest body of work, check out this studio visit that Lukas conducted for our friends over at Fecal Face. Though the two shows weren’t hung when we visited, we’re greatly looking forward to seeing both bodies of work by these two artists, the shows open tomorrow, Saturday May 8th.
