Swoon first garnered recognition for her pasted portraits in public spaces, but a new show represents an evolution for the artist, currently showing at Deitch’s New York venue. “Cicada” collects new films, installations, and drawings from the artist, who was featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 36. “In Swoon’s work, the sea often constitutes the physical and metaphorical ground for possible encounters,” the gallery says. “In Cicada, underwater scenarios become a psychological space for introspection and subconscious explorations. Surrounded by new sculptures and her portrait series, Cicada allows viewers to immerse themselves into Swoon’s world, creating a vivid experience embedded in the present moment.”

Ray Harryhausen, the father of the enormously influential style of stop-motion called "Dynamation," will be honored at exhibition at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 2020, his famous creature models escaping the archives and on display. The first glimpses of these restored figures were revealed to mark his 99th birthday. Harryhausen, who passed away in 2013, influenced stop-motion artists such as Henry Selick and Phil Tippett, as well as directors George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and J.J. Abrams.
Chilean artist Marcos Sánchez is the director behind The Breeders' music video for "Walking With A Killer.” Found footage is given new context and intrigue as animated by Sánchez, which follows the horror-themed aspect of the song’s lyrics. The artist's short films and music videos have previously appeared in festivals across the globe.

Although the unlikely pair grew up worlds apart, they found one another through their art, and their work together has endured long after their lifetime.
