Created entirely from archival cardboard, artist Scott Fife conjures life-like busts of people and beasts alike to stunning effect. Building up layers of cardboard with glue and a screws, the works include a variety of texture and color, culminating in the expressive features of celebrities such as Frida Kahlo and Elvis Presley as well as mimicking the fur of wild animals such as bears and wolves. The artist comments on both the physicality of the work and the choice to work in such an unexpected and yet commonplace medium: “I like the physical nature of building the sculpture–it seems very old-fashioned and traditional. The idea of the material itself–it’s friendly, flexible, there’s a glow from in it.” View more of the interesting works below.
