Andrea Mary Marshall’s ‘100 Smokers’

by Ken HarmanPosted on

Featuring the pale faces of 100 figures, artist Andrea Mary Marshall’s 2010 series, ‘100 Smokers’ explores our cultures obsession with beauty and self-destruction. Slashes of vivid color mark the hair of each model as cigarettes dangle from their pouty lips in the tightly focused portraits of a smattering of models. Their nudity suggests a subtle vulnerability, but their unflinching gazes portray them as masters of their ephemeral beauty. View selected images from the series after the jump.
