Entang Wiharso’s Metal Relief Sculptures

Entang Wiharso’s metal relief wall sculptures are crafted from aluminum, car paint, pigment, resin, and other materials, offering the Indonesian artist’s surreal narratives. A recent statement says that his work “not only reverence for the folklore and history of his own Javanese culture, but also a strong recognition of the yearning for identity and belonging.”

A recent statement says that his work “not only reverence for the folklore and history of his own Javanese culture, but also a strong recognition of the yearning for identity and belonging.”

“I depict the condition of humans who are often divided by complex, multilayered political, ethnic, racial, and religious systems: they co-exist yet their communication is limited and indirect,” the artist says, in a statement. “Figures are interconnected by intuitive as well as intellectual linkages, including ornamental vegetation, tongues, tails, intestines, animal skin patterns, fences and detailed landscapes.”
