Michal Janowski’s Mixed-Media Work Plays with Mythology

Michal Janowski's mixed-media artworks are tinged with a sense of diabolical play. Child-like Pan figures haunt the works with their shadowy presence. Janowski seamlessly merges the refined and expressionistic elements, overlapping abstract markings and clean-cut outlines. At times, characters' hollowed-out faces appear almost mask-like (perhaps another nod to Ancient Greek storytelling traditions). Their eyes become the focal point, as the artist renders them with intensity and three-dimensional detail. Take a look at some of Michal Janowski's work after the jump.
