Group Show Pays Homage to Bosch Masterwork

With more than 30 artists in tow, Outré Gallery pays tribute to Hieronymus Bosch's masterwork "Within The Garden of Earthly Delights" in a new group show. Each artist has taken aspects of the work and crafted a piece within their own sensibilities, whether a few characters in the painting, an entire panel, or just one of its themes. The line-up includes Allison Sommers, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Alex Kuno, Hi-Fructose co-founder Annie Owens, Bill Crisafi, Brackmetal, Brandi Milne, Brad Gray, Charles Schneider, Davor Gromilovic, Ian Ferguson, Jesse Jacobi, Kiko Capile, Medusa Wolf, Meagan ‘Magpie’ Rogers, Moon Patrol, Nathan Reidt, Paul Barnes, Parker S. Jackson, Peca, Travis Lampe, and several others.

The gallery on the original painting: “Visionaries heavily influenced by the triptych include artists like Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, René Magritte and Max Ernst, to director Guillermo Del Toro, and couturier Alexander McQueen, amongst many others. The artists in this show have reimagined the triptych in their own voice. … The artists have delved deeply into the artwork, the figures, the creatures and all the surreal details.”

Arch Enemy Arts’ Pulp Returns for Second Installment

Arch Enemy Arts’ current group show, Pulp 2, is the gallery’s annual works on paper affair, with this crop including Matt Gordon, Kit Mizeres, Caitlin McCormack, Thomas Ascott, and several others. The Philadelphia spot hosts the show through Jan. 30. This is the second installment of Pulp, which debuted last year.

Arch Enemy Arts Group Show Celebrates Collage

A group show running at Arch Enemy Arts highlights artists either inspired by or directly working in collage. Running until Aug. 25, "Mélange" brings a diverse array of creators to the Philadelphia space. The show features Alex Eckman-Lawn, Angela Rio, David Krovblit, Dewey Saunders, Eduardo Recife, Jake Messing, John Vochatzer, Moon_Patrol, Pierre Schmidt, Vahge, and Visual Stones.

Renee French’s New Series of Bizarre and Endearing Drawings

American artist Renée French draws endearing portraits of bizarre creatures that look like dark versions of fairytale characters. First featured in an insert for Hi-Fructose Vol. 35, French considers herself a "graphite addict", who keeps a child-like innocence about her adult graphic novelist and comics rooted works. Her fantastical imagery is in part inspired by Netherlandish painter Hieronymus Bosch, especially the macabre and nightmarish depictions within his fanciful world. She will debut her latest series at La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Angeles on October 2nd.

‘Modern Muse’ to Open at Rehs Contemporary Galleries

Dilla The muse was a well-known component in the work of Picasso, Dali, and Kahlo. A new show at Rehs Contemporary Galleries shows how this tradition continues in the work of Linda Adair, David Bowers, Randalf Dilla, Amanda Greive, Hiroshi Furuyoshi, Ira Reines, and Michael Van Zeyl, even in unexpected ways. Bowers, for instance, cites his wife as integral to his work, while combining components of her with influences from historical masterworks. The show runs Oct. 27-Nov. 16.
