Models Recreate Gustav Klimt’s Golden Paintings

Life truly imitates art in this set of photos of models recreating some of Austrian symbolist Gustav Klimt’s most famous paintings. The images were taken earlier this year for the Life Ball in Vienna, Europe’s biggest charity fundraiser, which went “gold” in support of people with HIV or AIDS. “To awaken a spirit of optimism, liveliness and activity in every single person – that is the goal,” it says at the event’s website. Models were costumed and painted as an embodiment of Klimt, whose work featured primarily the female body marked by a frank eroticism, and found success in his later years for his mosaic-like “Golden Phase” paintings.

Amano Yoshitaka Adds Glimmer to His Fantasy Works in “Aurum”

Japanese illustrator Amano Yoshitaka is perhaps most famous for his designs for the Final Fantasy video games, but he is also an accomplished painter in his own right. He shifted his focus to fine art in the late 90s, and his artwork reflects the brilliant fantasy and imagination that make his characters so appealing. Amano takes the brilliancy of his works to a new level with his latest exhibition “Aurum”, currently on view at Mizuma Gallery in Japan.

Japanese Artist Yusk Imai Draws Surreal Arrangements of Figures

American-born Japanese artist Yusk Imai portrays highly stylized figures drawn from his dreams and mythology. Working in his studio in Berlin, Imai creates using a variety of materials and applications including sketches, painting on canvas and wood, photography and large scale wall murals. Often drawing in monochrome, ink on paper is his favorite medium. His images have been compared to Gustav Klimt for their use of intricate patterns and symbolism.
