Mixing early Christian iconography with pop culture references, Italian street artists Mr. Klevra and Omino71 transformed the cavernous -1 Art Gallery into what resembles a postmodern cathedral for their two-person show “Sancta Sanctoroom.” Painted floor-to-ceiling with murals full of detailed imagery, the gallery is located in an underground space in the historical Casa dell’Architettura/ Acquario Romano. Using a similar technology to Google Maps, the gallery created a 3D virtual tour to allow viewers from all over the world to “walk” through the gallery and zoom in on any detail they wish. Take a look at some images from “Sancta Sanctoroom” after the jump and take the 3D virtual tour here.

Italian artist Mr. Klevra knows no boundaries between the past and the present, tradition and technology. Balanced somewhere midway on the spectrum between surreal and cartoonish, his paintings and murals combine pop culture and Orthodox Christian iconography with a sci-fi sensibility. In his world, a new kind of sanctity is created when human and animal characters are juxtaposed with sacred symbols and rich hues like burgundy, deep blue and gold typically seen in religious art. Take a look at some images courtesy of the artist.
