Harry Holland’s Fantastical Paintings of Nudes

Painter Harry Holland uses his penchant for realism to create whimsical paintings where classical nudes are seen in action rather than in states of repose, where we usually expect to find them. His characters run in packs, seemingly endowed with mystical powers like the Grecian muses or witches from European literature. Rather than coming across as delicate bodies intended for eye candy, these figures appear to have broken free from the frames of traditional nude portraits hung in museums and galleries and reclaimed their agency. Take a look at some of Holland's work after the jump.
