Contemporary
Art Magazine
Hi-Fructose is a quarterly print art magazine founded by artists Attaboy and Annie Owens in 2005. We’re pleased to show you the cover of the next issue of Hi-Fructose featuring a painting by Lola Gil. Its composition and themes really spoke to us. We also like, that on shelf, you’ll probably just notice the upside down portrait, with the rest of the image revealed when you grab it to bring it to the counter.
Look for a 12 page feature on Gil inside Hf 69. It delves into the evolution of her work, the use of glass figurines, and drawing on nostalgia.
The issue is at the press and we can’t wait to share the rest of its contents with you.

We must not forget to visit the wild creations of outsider artists in the coming year. We can’t assume that their obsessive installations will be around forever. From Howard Finster’s Gardens to LA’s Watts Towers to Philly’s mosaic-filled Magic Gardens, these accessible passion projects fueled by the imaginative unrelenting spirits of artists with a vision. They often utilize upcycled materials and make cities and ignored areas inside them interesting. But sadly, many they don’t last more than a generation, as they often fall victim to maintenance issues and property taxes.
It’s always exciting to discover projects like Dr.Evermor’s Forevertron in Wisconsin thanks to the folks at Wooly Mammoth.
Know of any similar spots we should check out? Give us a shout/DM. Or mention it below.

Dr. Evermor’s Forevertron is a highly imaginative, fantastical sculpture park built from industrial scrap. Located in Wisconsin, (very close to where I grew up), the park is only a few miles from Devil’s Lake State Park (Chicagoans LOVE Devil’s Lake!)
The Forevertron was constructed by Tom Every (1938-2020), and was designed to launch Dr. Evermor, “into the heavens on a magnetic lightning force beam”. It is constructed from literally tons of junk and old power plant scrap, but perhaps most notably, it includes two 19th century Edison dynamos.
The Forevertron is the focus of the attraction, but there’s also a million other smaller scrap sculptures of Mr. Every’s on display. The park is free, and there is often an Every relative on site, answering questions, etc. We always leave a donation when we visit. Dr. Evermor’s is the quintessential roadside Americana. Go there.

This love letter was written by Alfred Joseph Frueh, an American cartoonist, and illustrator, to his wife Giuliette Fanciulli on January 10, 1913.
When folded according to the instructions, the letter transforms into a mini model of an art gallery.
Frueh made this model to inform his wife about the details of a specific art gallery before her visit.

For some of us, this public service announcement shown in art house theaters was our first introduction to John Waters; before we sought out his wonderfully depraved movies at midnight showings and on VHS copies whose tapes were always worn thin in certain areas.
Our next issue of Hi-Fructose will have a print exclusive interview with the legendary Indie filmmaker. Waters discusses his life in film and the new exhibition “John Waters: Pope of Trash” which honors his career, now on view at @academymuseum
As a bonus: you can scratch each of the pictures in the article of John, Divine and a still from a scene from Pink Flamingos..
And the pictures will smell just like ink
printed on paper, that’s imported from Canada.
Subscriptions now start with issue 69.
