Sasaku Kusuriyubi’s wild characters and scenes carry both joyful and otherworldly qualities. The artist, garnering praise on social media from the likes of James Jean and Yu Maeda, seems to take influence from both anime, mythology, and a broader pop sensibility.
Kusuriyubi tells us that part of the drive to create works from wanting to “love the preferred things more and overcome the terrible things, as a motif of what I [was] accustomed to when I was a child in my hometown.” Much of the artist’s work is crafted in Procreate.
