The Embroidered Characters of Patricia Larocque

by Andy SmithPosted on

Creating under the name “ffembroidery,” Patricia Larocque’s embroidered characters are packed with anxiety and pop cultural influences. The artist has used multiple techniques to craft these faces, which can take up to 25 hours to craft. She often shares process photos and other insights on her Instagram page.

“The designs tend to stem from my over-active imagination that braids in imagery from horror films and the stranger-then-fiction stories of reality TV,” the artist says. “I’ve lived in three different countries in the past four years and I’d say it’s influenced my nostalgic side. When I’m drinking coffee or working I often flip through my memories and find references that I can pull into my work.”
