The Knitted Monsters of Tracy Widdess

by Andy SmithPosted on

The embroidered monsters of Tracy Widdess add an unexpected texture to the horror genre. The Vancouver artist has called her practice “brutal knitting.” And with her talents in crafting textile fright, she embodies that label with both wearable and standalone pieces.

In one interview, Widdess talked about how she developed her ability to knit from her imagination: “I always had the idea to learn from knitting patterns to see how they worked, rather than just following directions,” she said, in an interview with LoveKnitting. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to make my own ideas, but had to gain the technical expertise with practice.”
