The Surreal Photography of Romain Laurent

by Andy SmithPosted on

Romain Laurent‘s surreal photography mixes humor and disconcerting scenes, whether its his strange “Inner Dialogue” series or his subtly animated “One Loop Portraits.” The artist has both personal and commercial practices. Laurent hails from France but is currently based in New York City.

The artist is also known for his elegant and quirky GIF portraits, first pursued as a project between commercial clients. On his Instagram account, he provides the most succinct description of his practice: “I make moving, half-moving and non-moving images.”

Laurent’s commercial clients include Google, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Panasonic, Nissan, Procter & Gamble, and several others. His biography states that “currently works on his ‘loops’ project, which can be seen as a frank step toward the video field that he is taking over with the same conceptual identity.”
