Ron English Presents New Work in ‘TOYBOX’

Ron English's oil paintings have long entertained, bewildered, and challenged viewers in each's absorbing strangeness. In a new show at Corey Helford Gallery, titled "TOYBOX: America in the Visuals," the artist offers his latest body of work. The pop art legend’s show starts Dec. 2 and runs through Dec. 30. “‘TOYBOX’ deconstructs the search for new meaning in a culture that is based as much on the imagination of its participants as on the physical realities these human concepts are played against,” the gallery says. “The toy based childhood imagination aesthetic of the work allows for a playful new look at a society in the throes of reinventing itself.”

The artist is based in New York City. Instead of pursuing a traditional education, she apprenticed with several established painters including Odd Nerdrum, whose work appears to have influenced her delicate, hazy yet surreal style. Yasuto Sasada’s Drawings of Machine-Inspired Creatures

Japanese artist Yasuto Sasada, just 27 years old, has already made a name for himself in the modern art and fashion world, through his collaborations with Yohji Yamamoto. Sasada has his own visual language that combines cultural traditions with the future. His detailed pen drawings of creatures mix motifs from modern technology and religion. Their black and white tonality, achieved with a thin 0.3mm pen, is harshly contrasted against bright pink, blue, and green backgrounds. He's created a new form of painting that juxtaposes old and contemporary ideas, taking us into an entirely new dimension.
