“‘TOYBOX’ deconstructs the search for new meaning in a culture that is based as much on the imagination of its participants as on the physical realities these human concepts are played against,” the gallery says. “The toy based childhood imagination aesthetic of the work allows for a playful new look at a society in the throes of reinventing itself.”

The works featured here include 36 new oil paintings, sculptures, and installation are that carries this through. See a few of these pieces below.

R. Freymuth-Frazier's oil paintings dangle sexuality before the viewer before replacing it with feelings of discomfort and alienation. The soft, supple women in her works often stare out from the canvas with confrontational gazes, as if reproaching us for tracing their ample curves with our eyes. Freymuth-Frazier's work lives within this tension, casting a dark shadow on eroticism as a site for all sorts of anxieties and hang-ups instead of a pure expression of love. The artist is based in New York City. Japanese artist Yasuto Sasada, just 27 years old, has already made a name for himself in the modern art and fashion world, through his collaborations with Yohji Yamamoto. Sasada has his own visual language that combines cultural traditions with the future. His detailed pen drawings of creatures mix motifs from modern technology and religion. Their black and white tonality, achieved with a thin 0.3mm pen, is harshly contrasted against bright pink, blue, and green backgrounds. He's created a new form of painting that juxtaposes old and contemporary ideas, taking us into an entirely new dimension.
