Jeremy Mann’s Dreamlike New Oil Paintings

by Andy SmithPosted on

The latest work from oil painter Jeremy Mann is a collaboration with clothing designer/set designer Christina Molcillo. Mann says his work has the quality of “something dreamlike and lost, or a thing once wonderful and now forgotten,” and with his new show, “Theater of Light,” this thread evolves. The show, staged at Maxwell Alexander Gallery, opens July 15.

“Influenced by the delicate decadence of the 1920’s and Florenz Ziegfeld, live models will showcase the garments, (which will also be available for purchase), while surrounded by the sets that Mann’s current works depict,” the gallery says of the opening. “The play of time and perception come together for Mann’s work, with light and form evoking memory into the paintings.”

The show combines his figure studies, abstract cityscapes, and more. The show arrives just in time for the grand re-opening of venue, now housed in a 5,000-square-foot warehouse in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District. It was formerly based in Culver City.
