Twoone Paints Largescale Mural in Urban Spree Complex, Berlin

When we visited Berlin-based Japanese artist Twoone in his studio last month, he shared explorative new works featuring animals. We got a chance to catch up with him again in Berlin last week, where he was hard at work on a new mural in the Urban Spree complex. Named after the nearby Spree river, the complex features rotating urban art by emerging and well known international artists. Sadly, it is rumored to become the construction site of a new highway, making Twoone's large scale mural covering the main building's facade particularly significant.

We got a chance to catch up with him again in Berlin last week, where he was hard at work on a new mural in the Urban Spree complex. Named after the nearby Spree river, the complex features rotating urban art by emerging and well known international artists. Sadly, it is rumored to become the construction site of a new highway, making Twoone’s large scale mural covering the main building’s facade particularly significant. Titled “Ride or die/sink or swim”, the piece took two and a half days to complete and portrays a rearing horse, energized with brightly colored abstract elements. A play on words, its title is a reference to the piece’s sponsor, Spoke Bike seat covers, as well as our original mode of transportation, the horse. Twoone’s mural is located at Urban Spree at Revaler Str. 99, 10245 Berlin, Germany.

Puerto Rican street artist Alexis Diaz (covered here) recently teamed up with Chilean artist INTI to create a new mural for O.Bra Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Their mural, which took over 1 week to complete, blends the two artist's distinct imagery: Diaz's detailed and crosshatched line work with colorful under layers, and INTI's subjects inspired by life, death and religion, particularly Christianity. It features a surreal split-image of a skeletal robed woman, crowned with flowers and holding up a mechanical-like heart.
Inside a run-down building off Berlin’s Nollendorfplatz, an area known historically for both its gay culture and punk community, 12 artists from eight countries (Fernando Chamarelli, João Ruas, Alexis Diaz (La Pandilla), NoseGo, Word to Mother, Curiot, Low Bros, Andrew Schoultz, Glenn Barr, C215, Dabs Myla, and JBAK) worked for two days to create original artworks for the facades and windows of the currently unused site (exciting news about the future of this space to come).
Portugal-born muralist Sergio Odeith is known for dazzling with his optical illusions created on walls across the world. He first emerged as a practitioner in the graffiti movement in the 1990s, before turning his interest to toying with how his subjects can subvert expectations from viewers.
German street artist "1010" turns buildings into dreamy, bottomless pits of color with his murals. His two most recent, titled "Enter the Vortex", are part of the international street art festival Memorie Urbane in Fondi, Italy. They represent his signature style of layering colors two dimensionally to create a 3D optical illusion that tricks the eye.  The result turns something beautiful and mesmerizing out of blank, unattractive spaces.
