In honor of Valentine’s Day, the annual “Dirty Show” is an erotic art exhibit featuring many notable contemporary artists, such as Ron English, H.R. Giger, Aaron Nagel, Glenn Barr, Alexandra Manukyan, Colin Christian, and many others. The show will be held at the exhibition center of the Russell Industrial Complex in Detroit from February 12 through February 21.
The various artists in “The Dirty Show” give their take on salacious subject matter, sometimes in unexpected ways. Colin Christian, who is known for his doll-like resin sculptures, created a glittery phallus statue emblazoned with an octopus, while Alexandra Manukyan’s painting of a masked, tattooed woman looming over her male lover hints at a predilection for kink. In addition, filmmaker, comedian, writer, and artist John Waters will be performing his one-man show “This Filthy World — Filthier and Dirtier” on the opening night on February 12 and will have artwork in the exhibition, as well. Take a look at our preview of the show below.
The artist line-up includes: Shawn Barber, Clive Barker, Glenn Barr, Matthew Bone, Scott G. Brooks, Matt Buck, Saturno Butto, Colin Christian, Robert Craig, Steve Diet Goedde, Dan Dos Santos, Ron English, H.R. Giger, Michael Hussar, John John Jesse, Aunia Kahn, Jason Levesque, Alexandra Manukyan, Aaron Nagel, Billy Norrby, Gail Potocki, Steve Prue, David Stoupakis, Terri Thomas, Brian Viveros, Tony Ward, and Pamela Wilson.
