Preview: J.S. Weis’s “Liquid Hymn” at 1AM Gallery

In J.S. Weis's work, abstract clouds of ink act as a metaphor for the relationship between ecosystems. The artist realistically renders proud tigers, ornate orchids and other flora and fauna with ink and pencil, combining one species with another through compositional elements. Parts of Weis's work are collage: Layers of paper are stacked on top of one another to give the work a three-dimensional effect. Weis will premiere a new body of work at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco, "Liquid Hymn," on February 7. The artist says the series is his way of appreciating the mysteries of nature. Take a look at some works from the show after the jump.
