A Street Art Installation of 150 Fake Security Cameras by SpY

The street artist known as SpY uses city life as his artistic point of origin.  Often utilizing humor, irony, and everyday objects SpY throws a welcome wrench into the monotony of urban dwelling.  His latest work, CAMERAS, is a grid-like installation of 150 fake security cameras on the side of a building in Madrid.  Their redundancy is absurd to the point of being funny.  The fact that the cameras are non-functioning is even celebrated.  For example, on his website SpY describes the work as an “installation of 150 fake security cameras on building facade with the intention of not watching over anything.”  CAMERAS is as much a denunciation of surveillance as it is a celebration of privacy and subversion.
