Martin Whatson
On November 9, Black Apple Art presented “LA Contraband,” a one-night show of 15 urban artists from the UK, Norway and Australia: Dolk, Martin Whatson, Dot Dot Dot, SHOK-1, Eelus, PEETA, John Doe, Pure Evil, K Guy, JPS, Rourke Val Dal, Sandra Chevrier, Trust Icon, and Daniel Mernagh. Black Apple Art produces everything from pop-up events to elaborate group and solo exhibits internationally. Until this event, practically none of the artwork had ever been seen in the United States. The location was kept secret until Box Eight Studio opened its doors, like an oasis on the other side of the tracks. Many of the artists who attended the event anonymously were in LA for the first time and left their marks throughout the city. They also offered prints at K-Guy’s, known for his thought provoking street installations of found objects, charity auction to help benefit United Friends of the Children. Fans who missed the event or want to learn more about the charity auction can visit Black Apple Art online.
