In 2004, artist Brendan Danielsson (interviewed here) started an online community called Art Dorks. Like-minded artists, such as Travis Louie, Shawn Barber and Robert Hardgrave, began to join and soon enough the online community became an artist’s collective that organized group shows around the country for its members. The website soon became too time-consuming and costly to maintain, and Danielsson shut it down in 2006. The last Art Dorks exhibition was in 2008, and then the collective quietly dissolved. Danielsson recently rallied the original Art Dorks members and some new artists to join forces once again. On October 4, the group show “Art Dorks Rise” will open at Space:Eight Gallery in St. Augustine, FL. “This upcoming show at Space:Eight may only be a one time thing, it may be a new beginning. I guess we’ll see how it goes,” Danielsson told Hi-Fructose.
