Wies Preijde’s Elaborate Textile Installations

A recent textile design graduate from The Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague, young Dutch artist Wies Preijde creates elaborate installations that challenge her viewers' perception of their mundane environment. For her graduate show, Preijde transformed an entire room with geometrically patterned, woven textiles (made entirely by the artist). These patterns had a flattening effect, tricking the viewer's eyes into believing they were looking at an illusion of three-dimensional space, like a building in a line drawing, when they were in a three-dimensional room all along. Take a look at some of Preijde's works after the jump.
