Preview: Naoto Hattori’s “REM” at Copro Gallery

For his upcoming solo show, “REM” at Santa Monica’s Copro Gallery, Naoto Hattori (first featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 7) created a series of paintings that could easily be mistaken for digital renderings with their deceptively 3D-looking precision. Hattori has long professed his interest in exploring dreams in his work, but for “REM,” he doesn’t attempt to take his viewers through a complete dream sequence, instead focusing on a single key detail or symbolic element in each piece. The results are earth-toned and hallucinatory, brimming with geometric details. Take a look at some of the works in the show below and see “REM” July 27 through August 10.
