Using transparent elements, Jeremy Olson paints surreal still lifes that experiment with texture to create optical illusions from their various components. Olson’s choices for transparent materials sometimes yield unexpected results — jello and even thinly sliced ham juxtaposed with photographs within the paintings create a tension between the visceral and the polished.
