Jeremy Olson’s Still Lifes Play with Texture

Using transparent elements, Jeremy Olson paints surreal still lifes that experiment with texture to create optical illusions from their various components. Olson’s choices for transparent materials sometimes yield unexpected results — jello and even thinly sliced ham juxtaposed with photographs within the paintings create a tension between the visceral and the polished. Eyeballs can be spotted in some of the works, perhaps a gesture towards the act of observation. Check out some of Olson’s work below.
