As part of their contemporary art-focused Windows Program, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has invited Oakland-based artist John Felix Arnold III to create three dynamic installations that will be visible from the outside of the museum through the end of the summer. The SFMOMA is currently closed for renovation through 2016, so the Museum has changed its focus to installations visible from the outside of the museum and events at other venues.
John Felix Arnold recently returned from a trip to Japan, where he collaborated on an immersive installation inside Spes-Lab Gallery in Tokyo with Japanese artist Koutaro Ooyama aka Mon. To celebrate his new project at the SFMOMA, the nearby 111 Minna Gallery will host an opening reception this Saturday, June 8. We popped over to John Felix Arnold’s studio to check out his installations before they were assembled at the SFMOMA and see his collection of Japanese souvenirs. Take a look at some photos of Arnold’s new work and his installation at Spes-Lab below.
