Opening Night: ArtPadSF in San Francisco

Hosted at the historic Phoenix Hotel, ArtPadSF kicked off last night with an opening reception and party benefitting the SFMOMA SECA Award. Each gallery was given a pool-side hotel room to transform into a pop-up gallery, and visitors walked from room to room to see what each art space had to offer.

Soon-to-be-opened San Francisco gallery Bash Contemporary made their debut at ArtPad this year, sampling paintings from David Stoupakis, Bob Dob and Lee Harvey Roswell, as well as impressively-delicate 3D printed sculptures by Joshua Harker. Street art organization WallSpaceSF invited Zio Ziegler to paint a mural on the outside of the Phoenix Hotel and had an exhibition room that displayed Ziegler’s bright, mural-scale canvases. Spoke Art returned for another year with new paintings from the cover artist of our current issue (HF Vol. 27), Erik Jones, and Charlie James Gallery from L.A. gave viewers a taste of their repertoire, from irreverent ceramic sculptures to pop culture-inspired collage. Take a look at some highlights from the opening reception below and stop by ArtPadSF this weekend, May 17-19.
