Preview: David Soukup’s “Perennial Escapism” at Maxwell Colette Gallery

Tonight, David Soukup will present a series of new mixed-media paintings for his latest solo show, “Perennial Escapism,” at Chicago’s Maxwell Colette Gallery. Known for his meticulously-cut, detailed stencils, Soukup turned to the grittiness of urban Chicago for inspiration for his new series. Human figures are eradicated and the streets themselves become the protagonists of these new works. Architectural forms are abstracted and caked with layers of textured paint, re-emerging as a baroque accumulation of lines and angles. Take a look at our preview of the show below and see “Perennial Escapism” at Maxwell Colette Gallery April 26 – June 1.
