Delving into the annals of art history, Pedro Matos presents a new series of paintings for his upcoming solo show at Martha Otero Gallery, “Building Castles Made of Sand,” opening May 17. Elements of portraiture and patterns culled from tiles and textiles mix and mingle in Matos’ new, multi-layered work. The artist filters these influences through a distorted lens, creating the illusion of blurring and even ripping and burning the images with his brush until they are reborn as new forms.
