Milan Hrnjazovic’s Hallucinatory Oil Paintings

by Nastia VoynovskayaPosted on

Milan Hrnjazovic‘s unusual oil paintings of nude figures present bodies floating languidly like clouds of ink emerging from a brush dipped into water. Creating realistic figures and then destroying them with abstract clouds of fleshy hues, Hrnjazovic allows hidden shapes to emerge. These shapes inform the elaborate narratives Hrnjazovic imagines for her paintings — in the painting of couples, for instance, images of embryos and eggs become visible. Take a look at some of the works in Hrnjazovic’s Dornröschen and Together, Yet Apart series below, images courtesy of the artist.
