Last weekend, Merry Karnowsky Gallery premiered a solo show by interdisciplinary artist MM (a member of influential British electronic music group The Prodigy) titled “The Cure.” Full of enigmatic imagery, “The Cure” is a series of mixed-media works that combine acrylic, resin and collage. The glossy result blends elements of the humorous and the macabre in sparse compositions where the viewer must look closely to get the punchline. Butterflies in Viking helmets attack each mid-flight; pin-up girls transform into diabolical, yet strangely-seductive, monsters.
