Diego Gravinese’s Surreal, Intimate Paintings

by Nastia VoynovskayaPosted on

Argentinian painter Diego Gravinese captures intimate moments like a collector of found photographs. Framing his paintings like snapshots, Gravinese layers surreal imagery over glimpses into private situations. Geological formations and scientific sketches invade intimate bedroom scenes, adding to the works’ overall voyeuristic feel. The paintings zero in on their subjects as they unabashedly express vulnerable emotions, whether it’s lust, shame or rapture. Gravinese’s dusty color palette evokes early color photographs, giving his work a retro aesthetic. Take a look at some of his paintings below, images courtesy of Diego Gravinese.
