Sergio Albiac’s Generated Portraits

Unconstrained by the confines of a specific medium, Sergio Albiac creates painting and digital artworks that embrace the qualities of both traditional and new media. For his generative artworks, Albiac writes a computer program that generates images, manipulating these results to create beautiful instances of controlled chaos. Sometimes, these digital artworks are the final pieces and other times they are the inspirations for traditional paintings. His recent piece Statistical Beauty (above), for example, plays with the idea of randomness and control — the work is created from a selection of 1000 generated portraits.
