SCOPE Miami and the Wynwood Walls are located within the Midtown Arts District of Miami, Florida. I met up with artists Kukula and Scott Hove while in Midtown and they let me know what they thought of being at Art Basel this year. This was Kukula’s third year here in Miami. She enjoys art fairs more than being in a gallery because her work is open to such a large and diversified audience. Cory Helford Gallery presented her new works including the evocative painting entitled Lavish Hunger. Scott Hove had a selection of his decadent Cakeland sculptures on display at Spoke Art Gallery. Hove is well known for his sculptures but has also been painting for the last 25 years. I caught up with him at the Wynwood Wall where he was working on a large mural. Hove had been walking around the neighborhood for a few hours earlier and he decided he had to get a wall of his own. He met the right people and was able to secure a wall and get right to work. Hove said, “I feel so lucky to be here. This is the most art saturated, street art permissive environment I’ve seen in my entire life.”
