Exploring the fascination with death and the afterlife displayed in Catholicism and other religions, Toby de Silva creates lavish digital portraits of deceased saints. Reposing in their copious splendor, the skeletons appear paradoxically life-like as they prepare to ascend into a glorious afterlife. But rather than appearing joyous, the skeletal figures seem burdened by their ornate treasures as their fragile bones are locked inside bejeweled garments and heavy ornaments.
