Arth Daniels’ Body Part Portraits

by Jane KenoyerPosted on

British artist Arth Daniels has a BA degree in illustration and specializes in unique portrait paintings which are brightly colored, humorous, bizarre, and display bold human expression. These are not your run-of-the-mill portraits, instead they are and made up of precarious parts which have the quality of an assemblage sculpture. Mr. Potato Head noses, bulging eyes, and false teeth sets pop out of human sculls. Daniels’ edgy and contemporary paintings remind us that it is the placement, form, and emphasis of each individual part that is important in conveying human expression. His new solo show consisting of brand new paintings entitled Plastic Surgery speaks to societies’ ongoing obsession and willingness to dismiss facial features and reconstruct new looks through surgery. This show opens Nov 16th and runs through December 2nd at Stolenspace Gallery in London.
