Preview: Mark Whalen and Mel Kadel at Merry Karnowsky Gallery

This Saturday October 13, Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will open two solo shows, "Portals" by Mark Whalen and "Stuck on a Wave" by Mel Kadel. Compositionally similar, the two artists create busy mixed-media works filled with minuscule figures that seem to inhabit obstacle-filled mini universes of their own. While Whalen's paintings create a sci-fi ambiance with their glowing color palettes, Mel Kadel's drawings with collage elements have a more folk art-inspired appeal.
