Saddo’s Joyously Sinister Drawings

Romanian artist Saddo's paintings and illustrations can't seem to settle on a single subject, lumping, twisting and piling various figures into an ADHD cacophony. With his illustrative, cartoonish style, Saddo creates juxtapositions that are at once dark and amusing, playing on the boundary between the funny and the sinister. We catch the figures brimming with laughter or running from danger, creating a Nightmare Before Christmas-esque sense of macabre, jolly horror. Take a look at some images courtesy of the artist.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of master pop artist Keiichi Tanaami. His work was equally fueled by the horrific atomic blast he witnessed in World War II and the bright and ugliness of pop culture Tanaami’s art is both beautiful and horrifying.
