Reared on scary movies and comic books as a child, Matthew Bone infuses his paintings with the stuff of pop culture, mixing a realist technique with a sense of surrealist horror. The sweet and the morbid blend together in his latest paintings (see the piece in which a character tears open a Care Bear with her vampire-like teeth). Matthew Bone has a solo show, “Raised by Wolves,” coming up this Saturday at Last Rites Gallery (opening concurrently with David Stoupakis’ “Ashes to Sorrow,” which we previewed here).
