Though not necessarily photorealistic, Italian artist Alessia Iannetti’s drawings and paintings are chilling because of their confrontational effect. Female figures, most of them children or young women, stare at the viewer as if they were posing for a photograph and peering into the camera’s lens. But these characters appear to behold something supernatural. Like adolescent nature goddesses, the girls are surrounded by butterflies and flowers, their bodies interwoven with the flora and fauna to show their connection to these idyllic nature scenes.
