Preview of Miss Van’s “Wild at Heart” at Copro Gallery

Miss Van's poupee (French for "dolls") are so vivid and recognizable that they appear to inhabit a world of their own. Their butterfly-shaped lips, pointy fingers and soft bellies seduce the viewer into the artist's web of fantasy, creating an ambiance of mystical, sultry femininity. Miss Van (who we featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 15) is currently hard at work on new drawings and paintings in her Barcelona studio for her show, "Wild at Heart," opening August 11 at Copro Gallery. Playing with the idea of identity, Miss Van's new works feature a series of females donning animal masks, alluding to both ritual and our more primal impulses. The denim label Citizens of Humanity will be releasing a limited-edition t-shirt collaboration with Miss Van at the opening night of the show. Take a look at some photos from her studio by Stefan Kocev.
