Bursting with life, Michael Page‘s glossy oil-and-acrylic paintings exude a forceful energy impossible to ignore. Reflecting the evolution of life itself, the series of works he painted for his upcoming show at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco began when he discovered his wife was pregnant with their first child. A personal diary of this emotional journey, “Elan Vital,” which opens this Saturday, references mythology and renaissance paintings filtered through an ultra-saturated lens of rainbow colors. The large-scale paintings overflow with bold hues of magenta, forest green and turquoise, sometimes literally taking over the meticulously painted figures with their robust bodies. The idealized forms spill into abstract swirls of different hues that burst as if out of darkness, bringing new light and new life into the world.
