You could tell that winter was finally over and spring was here, as Seattleites came out in numbers to the Red Current show opening at Roq La Rue on March 23rd. Curated by Sharon Arnold, Red Current features works from 37 female artists, all of whom have roots in the Northwest.
The show caters to all fans of art with a multitude of mediums and installations, like Mandy Greer’s Pelican Goddess that takes up residence near the front window and spews forth a waterfall of chunky yarn. Amanda Manitach dazzles with intricate graphite drawings in Interior Decoration (Second Empire), and Kimberly Trowbridge’s massive oil painting Arcadia oozes seductiveness while taking up the entire back wall. There is even some wearable (and edible!) art from Naomi Faith, who’s HEAT collection contains jewelry made from white chocolate, and will melt upon the wearer from their own body heat. With so many artists of differing variety, the show is best seen in person, but get there fast as the show is only open until April 7th. – Robbie Lowery
